My role is to assist people with their goals of improving their emotional and mental health. These problems might manifest in a variety of ways, such as trouble in relationships, poor school or work performance, feeling overwhelmed, or overall life dissatisfaction.
Counseling is a process of exploring such manifestations and understanding the interplay of emotions, thoughts, and behaviors in an effort to create change in one's life and achieve more peace of mind, a greater understanding of oneself and more self awareness.
Our well-being is largely impacted by our mental health, so we have to do all we can to make sure that we address situations that negatively affect our happiness. We often try to dismiss the impact of stressors like loss of a job, death of a family member, divorce, etc., but being proactive and getting help to cope with these things can make a big difference.
Individual and relationship problems can be so intertwined that it can be difficult to figure out the root of the problem. Couples counseling offers the extra benefit of being able to address both. It enhances mutual respect in the relationship through better communication, challenging perceptions/beliefs and beling more open to each other's viewpoints.
If it feels like your family is disconnected, unsupportive, or struggles to communicate, family therapy can help restore and strengthen the unit. Uncovering and understanding each member’s issues, establishing more open and respectful communication, and discussing generational differences are parts of the core focus.
